高通量細胞生物學是指將自動化儀器設備和細胞生物學技術整合，來回答傳統方法不能解決的問題。它需要用到先進的成像技術、化學試劑和生物學方法，快速、多通路地獲得細胞表型、功能和相互作用的信息。它的核心思想是盡可能多地獲得數據——無論是來源于大量樣本，還是采用“組學”的研究方式，同時不降低數據的質量。
英國TTP LabTech公司推出的Acumen eX3高內涵細胞分析平臺配備有405nm、488nm和633nm三種不同波長的固態激光發生器，兼容眾多的熒光染料。Acumen eX3具有全孔高速成像和多重熒光分析的能力，兼有CCD成像系統和流式細胞儀的優點，能在10min內完成對微孔板（包括96、384、1536孔板）的整板掃描。目前，該平臺已經成功地應用于各種細胞水平的研究，包括對人類基因組RNAi文庫的篩選研究1－3，癌癥相關的研究2（包括細胞周期、細胞增殖、克隆形成、細胞毒性、凋亡、細胞粘附、血管生成、蛋白激酶等），以及干細胞分化的研究3。特別值得一提的是，AcumeneX3的高質量成像優勢在組織切片、動物模型（如線蟲，果蠅和斑馬魚）等系統生物學研究領域也備受推崇。在過去短短的幾年里，Acumen eX3已經成為科研和制藥領域最為推崇的高通量細胞生物學的研究利器之一。
干細胞因其具備分化成為其它細胞類型的能力，使其在機體修復過程中擔負著重要作用。由于干細胞這種能被用于治療人類疾病的潛力，使得關于干細胞的研究在當今醫學研究領域被認為是最重要、最具潛力的方向之一。
由于干細胞的增殖和分化是小概率事件，捕捉這樣的事件需要擴大篩選量，并盡可能對所有細胞進行成像和分析。Acumen eX3正是具有這種高通量的全孔成像能力，特別適合檢測化合物刺激和RNAi誘導下干細胞的增殖和分化。通過各種分子標記和染料，Acumen eX3能精確的統計出分化的干細胞占總細胞數的比率。

神經干細胞是存在于腦組織中的一種干細胞，可以分化成神經元、星形膠質細胞、少突膠質細胞等。其自我增殖較快有著較穩定的細胞庫來源，除了具有多向分化潛能性外，神經干細胞免疫原性較低不表達成熟的細胞抗原，有著很好的組織相融性能夠在宿主體內長期存活，我們的用戶也成功的將Acumen eX3用于檢測神經干細胞分化的實驗。
