To help its sales and marketing staff get a handle on the explosion of mobile data, scientific instrumentation firm Thermo Fischer Scientific deployed a mobile content management platform supplied by bigtincan, reported Baseline magazine.
After giving sales and marketing staff Apple iPads and deploying a mobility suite in 2012, the company, which has 50,000 employees in 50 countries, realized it needed to make changes to its mobile content and delivery system.
"The sales team had to find content and data from multiple sources and platforms. They spent a lot of time finding the specific modeling data and other materials they needed," related Jasmine Zheng, global sales force effectiveness platforms manager for Thermo Fischer.
Sales reps were spending hours or days looking through internal sites for PowerPoint and Excel files, email attachments, PDFs and other data sources to get the right materials for customer meetings.
Thermo Fischer turned to bigtincan for help with mobile content management.
"The bigtincan platform provided a simpler and more efficient way for the sales force to obtain the materials they required, it also made it possible to house their own information and share information. The system cuts down the downtime in the home office and enables [the salespeople] to spend more time in front of their customers and peers," Zheng said.

Chris O'Leary, director of global sales force effectiveness platforms at Thermo Fischer, said that the productivity improvements give his staff an extra selling day each month. The platform also reduces the need for printed materials because it generates electronic binders that can be shared with customers.
In addition, the platform enables the IT team at Thermo Fischer to view mobile data and usage trends from a central dashboard. This enables the company to have a better understanding of what materials sales reps are using and how they are using them.
